The scope of the project will cover both the signal-in-space i.e. the communication with the satellites and relevant ground segment elements (e.g. systems and facilities responsible for key management) covering technical and procedural aspects.

Internship on Cybersecurity for Satellites

The main tasks for the internship are to:
Review and summarise existing, relevant publications on the topic, identifying aspects relevant for EUMETSAT’s fleet;
Assess the status of security for the communication with existing satellites in operation;
Assess the status of security for communication with satellites for programmes in development;
Issue recommendations for existing and future missions, taking into account quantum security aspects for the long-term implementation;
In addition, the intern will support relevant day-to-day activities within the team.


Have the ability to work effectively in English;
Be computer literate;
Be intrinsically motivated and curious about the internship subject;
Be able to work independently and collaboratively;
Have the ability to take the initiative in researching ideas;
Have the ability to collect, collate, conceptualize and present information clearly.

Additional specific requirements:
Background knowledge in cryptography, network security, wireless security, wireless communication protocols;
Background knowledge of Radio Frequency communications and signal propagation would be an advantage.

Open to master students with mandatory internship requirements in relevant disciplines.
